Zanzibar Services
Since it's inception in 2005, the aim of the Kichanga Foundation has been to achieve sustainable development projects focusing mainly on children and local communities. The creators of the foundation, Nigel Firman and Andrea Brunetti have been very involved in overseeing that Kichanga Foundation develops and maintains schools in the nearby villages of Michanvi Kae and Michanvi Pingue, located on the south-east coast of Zanzibar.
The foundation generates most of its funds from friends, customers and business, as well as through a variety of other sources. The main funding source is sales revenue donated by Kichanga Lodge and The Rock Restaurant. Every small contribution can significantly support their projects.
Through overwhelming support, the Kichanga Foundation in recent years has created a library and built classrooms (including a computer workshop with six computers) for a school. As well as a few brick buildings the foundation has completed a playing field for children and provided safe drinking water to the schools. Among their goals, as well as completing the construction of the last school buildings and providing laboratories with the necessary school equipment, they aim to send one student from the village to university to become a teacher. The foundation also aims to send a teacher to university to improve their teaching skills.
