Shanga Shangaa offers a wonderful way to see a positive and successful approach to supporting and helping a disabled community, indulge in shopping for a unique item at the on site retail Shop, tour the workshop or simply enjoy some time on one of Tanzania's oldest and most beautiful coffee estates.
In-house, Shanga produces unique glassware, eccentric jewellery and a range of accessories, and home décor items sold in trendy boutiques in Arusha and Dar es Salaam.
At the workshops Shanga recycles aluminum, glass bottles and paper into hundreds of amazing products, combining ancient African and Venetian techniques with simple, homemade technology. They are the first to blow glass in Tanzania, do aluminum sand casting and make lampwork beads. All done by 42 disabled Tanzanian people who never had a chance to work before.
The workshops and shop are open 7 days a week from 9:30am - 4:30pm. During these hours there is always someone around to show and explain how the products are made - it is a truly magical place to spend some time! You do not need to book workshops tours.
